Sailing

My brother Aaron surprised us with a quick visit last weekend. He was in Fresno on business, so he drove down and spent a day with my parents. As you can see, he's currently growing a beard.

Last year Tyler's cub scout leader gave us his old sailboat. His grown children didn't want it, and he thought our two families (mine and Kristen's) would enjoy it. It was really old and yucky, but Jonathan and some of his brothers cleaned it up and ordered a new sail. Jonathan went to a sailing camp years ago, and he was able to show his family how to do it a couple times before he left on his mission.

Aaron wanted to go sailing while he was here. We went to Morro Bay on Saturday evening (that's when it was high tide).

We got there around 5:00, and it was freezing! The boys tried to tell me the water wasn't cold, but I didn't believe them. I thought they were a little on the crazy side, but at least they were happy.

Nathan took 1-2 people out on the boat at a time.

Spencer had already gone out with them before, but it was the first time for Aaron and everyone else in my family.

My boys all had nervous smiles when they first started out.

But they all loved it!

We also took our kayak.

It was a fun little private beach. When we got too cold, we went in the car and ate.

 Aaron, sailing into the sunset...

It was a perfect night for sailing.

Thanks for the great pics. Aaron is so excited about sailing now. I keep telling him--one short lived enthusiasm at a time.
